NEW: Kate Winslet in the political satire "The Regime"

Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts star as the ruler and her loyal soldier in the first official trailer for the political satire "The Regime". Yesterday, HBO unveiled a teaser for its new six-episode limited series from Will Tracy, the screenwriter of acclaimed thriller "Men" and hit series "The Legacy".

This series is about the fictional authoritarian regime of a ruler played by Winslet, set within a year of her reign in modern-day Europe. Schoenaerts plays her soldier, whom Winslet chose precisely because he is "nobody enough" to harm her.

“You’re here because you’re a nobody. You’re not anybody,” Winslet tells Schoenaerts.“And that means I can trust you.” But as time goes on, the ruler will begin to lose touch with reality and the support of her voters. The announcement of almost two minutes does not reveal too many details about the plot, but it gives us an insight into how comedy and political drama awaits us, as well as potential tragedy. The series was previously titled "The Palace", and HBO announced it back in April with the information that the focus will be on the interaction between Winslet's chancellor and the US embassy envoy played by Martha Plimpton. However, we see tension between the two, and it seems that the focus should still be on the relationship between the chancellor and the soldier. Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Hugh Grant, Danny Webb, David Bamber, Henry Goodman, and Stanley Townsend star alongside Winslet, Schoenaerts and Plimpton. Will Tracy is the showrunner of the series, as well as its screenwriter and executive producer alongside Winslet, Frank Rich, Tracey Seaward, Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs, Seth Reiss, Sarah DeLappe, Gary Shteyngart and Jen Spyra. This sounds great!

"The Regime" will premiere on streaming platforms Max and HBO on March 3, 2024, with the first episode.
