No, it is not a mistake, "Echo" is the first Marvel series that will be shown simultaneously on the Disney Plus and Hulu platforms, and also the first series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will be rated TV-MA, which means there will be no shortage of serious violence and blood. In addition to the teaser, Marvel also released a video called "This Is Choctaw" that takes us behind the scenes to see how close collaboration with the Choctaw Nation helped bring "Echo" to life.
"Echo" is a spin-off of the Hawkeye series, which focuses on Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) aka Echo. As the former head of a criminal organization, she returns to her hometown in Oklahoma to "come to terms" with her past and connect with her roots. The events of the series continue quite soon after what happened in the Hawkeye series. Although we could already meet the character of Maya in the 2021 Hawkeye series, "Echo" will give a clearer picture of her involvement in Fisk's organization and resume where she left off after she shot the boss in revenge for ordering the murder of her father William.
One of the directors, Sydney Freeland, announced that we are expecting a dark and more realistic series in terms of violence. The other director is Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai). Executive producers include Freeland, Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D'Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Richie Palmer, Jason Gavin, and Marion Dayre.
"There are several cameo roles in the series, so MCU fans will have the opportunity to see characters from other films and series. But at the same time, you don't have to do your homework before watching. People who are not familiar with the MCU can still watch this.” - said Freeland.
All episodes of "Echo" will arrive on Disney Plus and Hulu on January 9.
