Paramount Pictures presented the final trailer for its new musical comedy "Mean Girls 2024". This movie is a remake of the original classic "Mean Girls", which conquered the world 20 years ago. In this movie, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert starred. Namely, from award-winning comedian Tina Fey, who starred in the original and she is also starring in the remake, comes a more modern version of her favorite story.
What can we expect from this movie?
New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is almost immediately accepted into the popular crew, the girls they call "The Plastics" ruled by Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and blindly obeyed by Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika). Cady will attract the attention of Regina's ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney) and she will become Regina's enemy number 1. Cady then embarks on a revenge journey to bring down the mean girls, with the help of Janis (Auli'i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey). All this will happen while these teenagers are trying to survive elementary school - high school!
Tim Meadows reprises his role from the original as Fey, and new cast members include Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Mahi Alam, Ashley Park, Connor Ratliff, and Jon Hamm. Fey wrote the screenplay for the original and this new version was directed by Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne.
"Mean Girls 2024" will hit selected theaters on January 12, but the film will be available to stream on Paramount+ later. The new "Mean Girls" is definitely a musical and will include songs from the original Broadway show.
"This is a very specific version of the musical that has a really specific place in a niche, culty theater way, that I think expands it to maybe people who aren't super into theater," Rapp told foreign media in April 2023.
