New weight loss hit: Serotonin diet

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter also known as the hormone of happiness or a natural mood stabilizer. He affects every part of our body - from our emotions to motor skills. It is a chemical that helps us with sleeping, eating and digestion. He reduces depression, regulates anxiety, and maintains bone health.

A serotonin diet is a diet plan that is based on improving mood and losing weight by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. Many people struggle with emotional overeating, and this diet helps curb mood swings and prevent such situations. In addition, those taking medication for depression often suffer from weight gain due to medication, and a serotonin diet can also help regulate such weight gain.

This neurotransmitter credited with positive mood and suppressing appetite occurs naturally in the body, but often at very low levels. Much of the serotonin in the body is created from the food consumed, and in order for the body to produce enough serotonin, it is necessary to ingest enough amino acid called tryptophan. It is found in the highest concentration in meat and dairy products, and can also be taken as a dietary supplement.

There are a number of foods that contain tryptophan. In addition to meat, such as turkey or chicken, or dairy products such as milk and cottage cheese and eggs, tryptophan is also found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, soy, chocolate, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin. Unlike many diet regimens that insist on avoiding carbohydrates in a wide arc, proponents of the serotonin diet believe that carbohydrates quickly raise serotonin levels and thus improve mood. Carbohydrates do stimulate the body to release insulin, which in turn makes it easier for tryptophan to reach the brain, but while it is important to eat carbohydrates, it is especially important to eat them in moderation.

Meals in the serotonin diet are composed of the mentioned foods, and the authors of the book 'The Serotonin Power Diet' state that it is possible to lose about two kilograms a week, but also to reduce stress and curb emotional overeating. The serotonin diet is not recommended exclusively to those who have to lose extra pounds, but to absolutely everyone else in order to take advantage of all the benefits of serotonin, and the list is, admittedly, impressive!
