Piers Morgan's big win against Meghan Markle: 'This is a big defeat for Princess Pinocchio'

I am overjoyed that Ofcom has supported my view that I do not believe in any of the bombastic statements of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, many of which have proved untrue. This is a great victory for freedom of speech and a strong defeat for Princess Pinocchio. Can I get my job back now? '

These are the words that British presenters Piers Morgan wrote on his Twitter profile yesterday, publicly calling Meghan Markle Pinocchio, alluding to her being a liar. It was because of her that in March this year Morgan decided to leave the show 'Good Morning Britain', of which he was the face, but, he explained, he was not fired, but left on his own, refusing to apologize to 'Princess Pinocchio' because he did not believe a word she said to Oprah Winfrey.

Almost from the very beginning of the love affair between Prince Harry and Meghan MarklePiers Morgan was not kind to the American actress, often pointing out that she carefully planned her entry into the royal family. Of course, these public criticisms were not liked by the Duchess of Sussex herself, who retaliated with a lawsuit against the media, but also against ITV, which broadcasts the popular morning show.

Yesterday, however, Morgan took the victory, after Ofcom, the British Communications Office, decided that the host did not break any rules by commenting on the statements of the Duchess of Sussex in her bombastic interview with Oprah Winfrey. For him, it is a great victory, but also proof that freedom of speech is extremely important.

The UK’s media regulator, Ofcom, has powers in the television, radio, and telecommunications sectors and has a legal duty to represent the interests of citizens and consumers by promoting competition and protecting the public from harmful or offensive materials.

In the United Kingdom, it was announced at the beginning of the year that the Conservative government there intends to establish a new institution, the main goal of which will be to preserve the right to freedom of speech in British universities. The body would be called the Champion of Freedom of Speech, and those whose rights will be violated will be able to seek redress. Freedom of speech has long been given to people to express their own views without fear that someone will try to prevent or punish them.

All this cannot pass without a 'cancel culture', which characterizes a person's response when it is proven that he is wrong and the desire to remove a person or group from social networks. According to the Urban Dictionary, this would mean, in short, inviting followers to report a person or group account instead of discussing criticism or showing evidence as to why the criticism is wrong. It is actually a call to exclude a certain person from the world of social networks and indirectly the real one. These are mostly very influential individuals who would be untouchable without social networks.

Although it could be said that the social media profiles of a large number of people use it to warn some members of the community who are considered to have done something unforgivable, public opinion would say briefly and clearly that this restricts freedom of speech and opinion, and the initial idea of giving users a sense of complete freedom and equality on the internet was further reinforced with social networks that allowed their users to create their own content without anyone being responsible for releasing it to the public.

It is this power that leads to discussions about the boundaries that should be drawn, and among the first is the anonymous leaving of comments that cause damage.
