Queen Elizabeth declines the "Oldie of the Year" award, she believes that she does not meet the criteria

"Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel, as such The Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept the award and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient," said Tom Laing-Baker, the Queen's aide, and all was noted in a letter published by The Oldie magazine on Tuesday.

The Oldie is a British magazine that is published once a month and is intended for the elderly "as an easy alternative to the press obsessed with youth and celebrities", according to their website.

They hold an awards ceremony each year, with former Oldie of the Year winners.

Although the Queen declined the award, the award ceremony took place on Tuesday with the “royal seal of approval”. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall attended the ceremony where the “Oldie Champion Knitter of the Year” and “Scrumptious Oldie of the Year” were proclaimed.

Camilla gave a speech, first mentioning the history of Abraham Lincoln’s room at the Savoy Hotel, where the event took place. There the American community in London often gathered during World War I and where Winston Churchill dined with members of his cabinet during World War II.

This is a room with a rich history, so it is a suitable setting for this year’s "Oldie of the Year" awards, which recognize the achievements of a number of outstanding elder people who have made a special contribution to the world,” the Duchess said.
