Stale and visually unattractive SF formula: "The Ark"

Considering the quality of the first episode, it is very unlikely that Syfy will order a new season of "The Ark" series. The series has almost no strong points, the only thing it managed to convey in the first episode is that the dangers the characters face are quite tangible. But that's also the flaw of the first episode because it keeps walking us from one crisis to another so that we didn't even manage to get anything else, except for the mere introduction of the characters. Therefore, the impression left by the episode is as follows: unimpressive, unconvincing and uninteresting.

The action of the series takes place 100 years in the future when colonization missions of other planets began as a necessity to ensure the survival of the human species. It's not specifically mentioned why humanity is desperate to find a new home, but the assumption is always the same. Earth is most likely on the way to collapse due to the climate crisis, and/or wars over increasing resources. Ark One is the first mission, which will be hit on its way by an unknown disaster that will cause serious damage and the loss of most of the crew.

With more than a year to go before reaching the target planet, life support supplies were running low, and leadership was lost, so the remaining crew members must become the best version of themselves to stay the course and survive. The lead now falls to Sharon Garnet played by Christie Burke, otherwise, a lower-ranking officer who found herself in that role by her own choice, so she clashes with Spencer Lane ( Reece Ritchie ), the other of the two officers, from the start.

The series clearly has no ambitions to ask big or smart questions, to deal with human nature a little deeper, or to generate links to some of the current problems of today. It is more than clear that the primary goal of the series is unburdened entertainment. Well, if you're looking for a sci-fi series that has a fascinating theme that does well through nicely arranged threads and a solid cast, this is definitely not it.
