As tuna is a greasy fish, products like tuna pate should not be eaten more than once a week. But just because it is an oily fish, tuna is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which makes tuna pate a great snack. 

The recipe for tuna pate below is quite simple and is based on canned tuna. For even tastier results, you can use fresh tuna to cook before chopping. Fresh tuna is a bit more expensive, but on the first bite, you’ll see it pays off. If you want a completely creamy pate texture, chop the ingredients in a blender, but if you want a slightly more rustic edition of tuna pate, simply chop them with a fork to get a slightly sharper texture. 

When preparing tuna pate, in addition to texture, you can play with flavors. Fresh or dried spices, seeds, nuts. You can add anything you want to tuna pate. You can also prepare pate from other types of fish, but if you use mackerel, for example, be sure to add more oil or butter because it is a fish that is not greasy like tuna.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cans of tuna (drain oil or water from it)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (about 25 g)
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 - 2 cloves garlic (depending on taste)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 pinch of red sweet pepper (serves to give the pate a pink color)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon parsley leaf 
  • 1/2 lemon (juice)
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • Optional: Basil, thyme, chives, mayonnaise, cream cheese, capers, pickles, anchovies, eggs, corn.

Preparation:

  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender and mix until the pate has a uniform consistency.
  2. Serve in a bowl and sprinkle with dried chives for garnish
