The unconventional but happy family of Eddie Murphy: with as many as five different women, the comedian has 10 children and they all get along great

Ever since Eddie Murphy began his career in the 1980s, he has been associated with a number of women with whom he also had a large number of children. Today, the 60-year-old comedian has as many as 10 children he had with five different mothers and recently became a grandfather for the first time. Contrary to the assumption we all might have thanks to this statistic, the legendary actor is on great terms with all of his successors and strives to be committed to his unconventional large family.

Murphy drew a lot of attention when he posted a photo with the kids during the 2018 holidays just weeks after the birth of his youngest son with fiancée Paige Butcher. The range of their years today is from 32 to 2, and regardless of the big differences, everyone hangs out and loves each other.

In the late ’80s, Eddie first became a father when his then-girlfriend Paulette McNeely gave birth to a boy. Eric, who was born in 1989, is now 32 years old. Shortly after the birth of their son, the couple broke up, and Eddie began a relationship with Tamara Hood with whom he had another child in 1990, son Christian.

Eddie's relationship didn't last long either, but the actor soon got married for the first time. He had been in a relationship with his wife  Nicole Mitchell for two years, and they had known each other even longer, since 1988. With her, Eddie had as many as five children together: daughter Brio, sons  Myles and  Shayne, and daughters  Zola and Bella. Unfortunately, their large family broke up when the couple divorced in 2006.

After his divorce from Mitchell, Eddie briefly dated former Spice Girl member  Melanie Brown better known as Mel-B. In 2007, she gave birth to a baby girl, Angel. The only problem Eddie ever had with his children’s ex-girlfriends and mothers was with Melanie who in court sought an increase in alimony for their daughter in 2020, but that didn’t disrupt the relationship between father and Angela who still hang out normally.

The last girl he is engaged to today, model and actress Paige Butcher, Murphy met in 2012. Four years later, they had a daughter, Izzy, and in 2018, a son, Max, the actor's tenth child. Along with all these children, Murphy was also a grandfather when his son Myles himself became a father.

Most of his children live fairly normal lives, away from the spotlight, and have not continued their father’s career. Although not many people know this, Murphy is a private person himself, avoids mundane events, and prefers to spend his free time with his family. “I want to stay the way I am and spend as much time as possible with my family and the people I love because my career or being an artist is not at the heart of my life. At the heart of my life are my family and my children, ”he once said when asked what his main focus is.

The misconceptions that many people have are understandable given the irresponsible, absent attitude that some famous fathers are known for. However, Eddie Murphy is proud of his role as a father. When a Rolling Stone reporter mentioned Eddie’s withdrawn nature in a 2011 interview, the relatively secretive actor was open and honest about how he felt about both his career and his children.

"My whole life revolves around finding peace of mind. Peace and quiet are my daily routine. I play the guitar, hang out with my girlfriend. My kids went to my mom's this week. I'm resting, no stress. After all these years well. I managed. Everyone around me is healthy, my children are beautiful and smart, they do different things, how can I not be satisfied? "

Slightly more in his recognizable witty style, with fellow comedian Ellen DeGeneres, Murphy said in 2019 that men and women have different reactions to his parental status. Men mostly wonder how he manages to push it financially, while women find it sexy when they see a dedicated father. It is the relationship of his ex-girlfriends that interests many. What do these family gatherings look like? He misled that all happy families are the same, the comedian stops when he says that there is a constant festival of love in his house and that everyone gets along great. Looks like Tolstoy was wrong after all!
