What do we know about this year’s Met Gala?

This year's Met Gala will be held on the first Monday in May. This fashion event brings together the world's biggest stars, so we will undoubtedly enjoy their clothing creations again. Last year's September Met Gala was just a small consolation for many because it was supposed to be held in May, but - it seems that this year's event promises to be memorable. As we look forward to the first Monday in May, we reveal to you everything we've been able to learn about the 2022 Met Gala.

What is this year’s Met Gala theme?

The Met Gala is also known as the Costume Institute Benefit or Met Ball, and it is a charity event organized at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and is one of the most exciting events for fashion lovers. Millions of dollars are collected at the ball, which makes perfect sense because the tickets cost from 30,000 to 300,000 dollars - depending on which table you sit at.

In previous years, the creators designed in accordance with the theme that is current that year, such as punk, camp, heavenly bodies…  And sometimes the theme of the event is a certain designer, such as Alexander McQueen.

This year's Met Gala theme is a continuation of last year's and will be held as part of the opening of the second part of the exhibition. Both themes celebrate American fashion, although there will be a small change in the first and second parts, and their names are different.

The first part was called In America: A Lexicon of Fashion and celebrated the 75th anniversary of the costume institute, mostly inspired by contemporary American fashion. At this Met Gala, the creators and their chosen stars paid tribute to Hollywood actors who were popular during the golden age of Hollywood.

The second part will be called In America: An Anthology of Fashion, which will follow the development of American fashion. With the complexity of the development of American history, and thus fashion in this area, the task for designers is not at all easy. This year's Met will be a homage to complete American fashion.

The designers will dedicate part of the exhibition to a modern vocabulary of fashion based on quality materials and creations, while the creations themselves will express the deeper social problems facing the United States and its population, such as equality, diversity, and inclusion.

The second part of the exhibition will explore the evolution of the language of fashion and its communication with people so that designers will collaborate with great directors and filmmakers.

It is always difficult to predict how designers will interpret the current theme and translate it into their work well enough that, when their chosen stars who will wear these creations appear, there is no confusion, but to be completely clear what the theme is in order to adequately respond to her. What we can say is that the emphasis on old Hollywood will be even stronger.

Who will be the host this year?

The guest list always remains a secret until it appears on the red carpet, however, we are well enough acquainted with this event to be able to predict who will appear. From Lady Gaga, who dresses exclusively Gucci this year, to Rihanna, who we hope will appear in one of her maternity dresses, the list goes on.

What we know for sure is that guests at the museum itself will be greeted by Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds, while there is speculation that at some point they will be joined by Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda.
