George Clooney and Talia Balsam were married in 1989 and have been married for only three years.
George and Amal Clooney have been among Hollywood's favorite married couples for years after he held the title of most desirable bachelor for 20 years, but few remember that he had been married before.
George's first wife was actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1992, when he was just at the beginning of his acting career.
Their relationship began soon after George broke up with colleague Kelly Preston, and they were married in Las Vegas. They were a couple briefly and in 1984, and when they met again, they didn’t last too long and quickly stood in front of the altar. Talia was 30 at the time and George was 28.
"I was 28, and in Kentucky when you're so old you have to go to the altar. You already know exactly what a marriage should look like. Still, our marriage wasn't even close to that. We were supposed to work on the marriage, and I couldn't do it and I left. Maybe I was scared too, and maybe I wasn't ready to get married. It was all my fault, "Clooney admitted later.
After the divorce, he pointed out that he would never marry again, but then he changed his mind when he met Amal.
"George is still charming, I know him well. I probably wasn't up for marriage at the time and a lot of things went wrong," his first wife Talia commented in one interview.
Talia has been happily married to actor John Slattery since 1998, with whom she has a son, Harry.
