WHY DO WE SLEEP SO MUCH WHEN IT RAINS? It all has to do with one, but very important, hormone!
The reason why it is difficult for us to start while it is raining is hidden in hormonal changes, experts say!
It must have happened to you that as soon as it started to rain, you started yawning, and thought that that would be an ideal moment to take a nap. This is no accident, and we reveal to you why this is happening.
The reason why it is difficult for us to start the day while it is raining lies in hormonal changes, experts say.
If the day is rainy, there is little daylight, so the body secretes less of the hormone serotonin, which makes us sluggish and sleepy, say American researchers from the University of Pennsylvania.
Serotonin
SEROTONIN is a hormone that gives us a general feeling of well-being, energy, and a good mood. When its level is reduced, the chances are higher that we will feel more sleepy.
The sound of rain itself has an effect on sleep. During evolution, humans have learned to interpret sudden and loud sounds as a sign of danger, which is why alarm sounds usually wake us up successfully, but if the sound is quiet or moderately loud and steady, such as drizzle, knocking on a window, or roof, our brain will interpret it, on the contrary, as if someone is repeating to it "everything is fine, everything is fine" - the study states.
