A bizarre cult tried to recruit David Duchovny at the peak of his career, and he spoke about the details only 20 years later
David Duchovny spoke about his experience with Scientology he met at his good friend’s wedding.
American actor and star of the “X Files” and “Californication” series David Duchovny decided to talk about his own experience with the Church of Scientology, discovering that his initiation process did not go well.
Today, 61-year-old David recounted in an interview with The Daily Beast his impressions of Scientology, which he gained at the wedding of his friend and actor Jason Beghe in 2000, who in the meantime left Scientology.
"I went to his wedding at the Celebrity Center in Los Angeles, and they put on a show for me. I immediately realized they were asking me personal questions and they were trying to gather the information I didn't want to give them as a stranger. So it didn't go well, I didn't play by their rules and I never came back, ” David recounted.
He added that Jason never tried to attract him directly to the church, but then expressed satisfaction as a member of them.
"He just told me it was great and that I should try, that it couldn't be any harder than that. We saw each other from time to time and I noticed that his vocabulary was different. The way he described the world and his experiences, especially the psychological one. He has completely changed, " David recalled.
Scientology is also popularly called the cult of celebrities, due to the fact that a large number of world stars have joined it, and the name that is associated with it at the first mention is that of actor Tom Cruise.
He encountered Scientology for the first time in his life while married to actress Mimi Rogers, who eventually became a favorite of Scientologist leader David Miscavige. He took the title from his colleague John Travolta, which resulted in a quarrel between the two Hollywood stars.
Well-known Scientologists include Kirstie Alley, Jada Pinkett Smith, and actress Leah Remini left her studies just like Laura Prepon.
Scientology is a movement or set of beliefs and teachings whose ideology is based on the works of the American writer L. Ron Hubbard. It is represented by the powerful Church of Scientology, which defends its teachings by relying on copyright laws and trade secrets. Critics often point out that it has been using coercive sales methods for years to extort money from its members, and there is the use of a number of commercial legal instruments against individuals.
