Everyone thought Kate Spade had everything she wanted, but she kept a dark secret

Renowned fashion designer Kate Spade enchanted the world with her handbags and achieved a huge success that many can only dream of, but the dream was suddenly interrupted by a great tragedy and her decision to take her own life.

It was news that shocked the public in 2018, as 55-year-old Kate seemed to have everything she could wish for at the time - a successful business she started with husband Andy Spade and 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix whom she adored. Despite this, she decided to end everything in her Manhattan apartment, and in a farewell letter to her daughter, she said she must not feel responsible for anything.

Police had confirmed that the famous designer had committed suicide by hanging and that a maid had found her in the apartment. No pills or alcohol were found with her, only a sad farewell letter addressed to her daughter.

"Bea, I've always loved you. It's not your fault. Ask Dad," Kate wrote, and the British Daily Mail speculates that it was her divorce from her husband Andy that prompted her to a desperate act, which he denied and later said he never stopped loving her.

Sources close to the couple pointed out that she and Andy had been living separately for some time, and the designer also suffered from severe depression. In addition, members of her family stated that Kate had been battling bipolar disorder for years and that she was contemplating suicide because she could not cope with the sudden burden of fame.

"Kate suffered from depression and anxiety for many years. She actively sought help and worked with doctors to cure the disease that takes too many lives. We heard from each other the night before the tragedy and she sounded happy. There was no indication that she could do such a thing. It was a complete shock. At the time she was not herself obviously, she was fighting her own demons, " Andy told the Daily Mail at the time.
