A Christmas classic: " The Holdovers" movie
This is the long-awaited collaboration between Alexander Payne and Paul Djamati!
Every true Christmas classic evokes similar feelings. In essence, this is a story about togetherness, friendship, and family, biological or, on the other hand, the one we chose and built ourselves.
"The Holdovers", is on one side so funny and warm film but on the other so sad, painful, and full of unadulterated hope. The film is about one such "unpredicted", "forced" family, that it is predestined to become a holiday classic. Well, you will especially like Payne's new drama. He will bite you, then kiss you right in the heart. And while you think about what happened, it will seem like a real, small Christmas miracle, and one of those films that are no longer made.
Lost souls
The story begins at the end of December 1970 in a boarding school in snow-covered Massachusetts. Everyone who has a where to go for Christmas is already on their way. For those few who, for some reason, cannot spend the holidays outside the school campus, life turns into a nightmare. Because the professor on duty or, rather, the holiday babysitter, becomes the professor whom no one likes.
Professor Paul Hannam (Paul Giamatti) is disliked by the students, the principal, the parents, and even the other lecturers. Well, he's one of those "he hates himself until noon, and from noon he hates the whole world". It seems like he doesn't even love himself. And the strangest thing is that even if he didn't stay at school due to the principal's punishment (because he didn't want to improve the grade of the son of a senator who gave a pepper donation to the boarding school), he still wouldn't have anywhere to go. Hanam has no one.
Before leaving him with five unfortunates who can't go home for the holidays, the headmaster will tell him: “Please, be a human being. It's Christmas..." However, Hannam is determined to show that there is nothing human in him, especially in front of those "thugs" and "hormonal barbarians" from his students, at any cost.
We won't discover more details, but we know that it is worth watching.
