Apple offers Thunderbolt 4 cables from $159
Apple demonstrated not only the new iPhone SE 3, the new iPad Air with Apple M1, and the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra during the March 8th hardware presentation, but also a Thunderbolt cable. The Thunderbolt 4 cable will set you back at least 159 dollars.
Apple introduced new desktop solutions, as well as an iPhone SE 3 and a new iPad Air, at an online event. Apple has announced a new desktop PC for at least 2,000 dollars with the new Mac Studio, which not only costs 5,000 dollars in the version with the Apple M1 Ultra but is also believed to be the most powerful desktop PC currently available.
Apple provides the new Thunderbolt 4 Pro Cable to connect this properly to a monitor or other accessories. The Thunderbolt 4 cable is 1.8 meters long and costs at least 129 dollars. Apple will soon release a Thunderbolt 4 cable with a length of three meters for a little under 200 dollars.
What does the Apple cable offer?
This cable is designed to connect numerous Thunderbolt devices. If both end devices support Thunderbolt 4, the highest data rate should be 40 Gbit/s, allowing you to connect an external graphics card or transmit a 4k-UHD image with 120 Hz and 10-bit color depth.
Furthermore, data can be sent at a rate of 10 Gbit/s, which is the same as the USB 3.2 Gen2 standard. The Thunderbolt standard allows for the transmission of up to 100 watts of power, allowing you to charge a linked Macbook and attach a second display in tandem with only one cable.
What is the difference between Thunderbolt 3 and 4?
Along with Apple, Intel is pushing the interface and putting a Thunderbolt 4 controller directly into all chipsets for the next 12th generation Core I CPUs. In contrast to the predecessor Thunderbolt 3, the new protocol supports 8k-resolution monitors.
Furthermore, only Thunderbolt 4 allows for the construction of passive connections longer than two meters in length while maintaining full performance. Thunderbolt 4 can transport up to 3,000 MB/s of data from media.
Because the preceding standard Thunderbolt 3 achieves a maximum data rate of 40 Gbit/s, you can also purchase a cheaper Thunderbolt 3 cable.
The connecting standard has been a USB Type-C port since Thunderbolt 3. In addition to Apple, Intel is pushing Thunderbolt in order to link everything feasible with a (short) cable.
However, there are few long wires. In addition, if a laptop has Thunderbolt 4 and an Intel Alder Lake CPU, Valve Index and Co. cannot be connected to it.
