Dell has announced the upgrade of its beloved line with a redesigned XPS 13 and XPS 13 2 in 1, presented in a thin and light form, the adoption of the new Intel Alder Lake processors of the 12th generation, and a minor reduction in the number of ports from its predecessor.

Dell updates its XPS 13 and XPS 13 2-in-1 laptops

Although, without a doubt, the XPS 13 2 in 1 will garner a little more attention this year, as it is the model that has seen the most modification. And it is that this new update of the convertible abandons its 360-degree hinge in favor of a tablet format, without a standard keyboard, which can now be purchased separately along with other accessories such as a magnetic stylus, indicating a more direct competition with Apple's new iPad and Microsoft's Surface Pro line.

A setup that will be completed with the standard 13-inch touch screen format, with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels and a 3:2 aspect ratio. To make more room for the screen, this convertible relocates its 11-megapixel camera to the back of the computer cover, further indicating its tablet configuration.

The XPS 13 2-in-1 is powered by the new Alder Lake-U CPUs with the i5-1230U or i7-1250U, as well as internal storage options of up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and internal storage via NVMe SSD of up to 1 TB. Although it is worth noting that we will be unable to upgrade or repair its internal components, including its battery.

Finally, in terms of connectivity, it supports 5G networks and an eSIM, while highlighting, as previously said, a reduction in the number of ports, eliminating the headphone jack and the microSD card reader, restricting analog connectivity to two Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The new basic Dell XPS 13 is an ultraportable with the same 13.4-inch screen options as its predecessor, being able to choose between a touch panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels or a normal panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and a thin and light body thanks to the use of an aluminum chassis.

Like the current 2-in-1 model, we'll have two processor options to pick from: the Intel Core i5-1230U and i7-1250U, with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 1 TB non-upgradeable NVMe SSD.

In the case of the Dell XPS 13, however, the business chose to restructure the motherboard to make it smaller than the previous generation, allowing for more space to update the laptop with slightly larger speakers. This edition will also lack the presence of the 3.5 mm jack connector, with a reduced connectivity area dedicated solely to the two Thunderbolt 4 ports.
