Do you know that you may be addicted to sugar?
Does it ever occur to you that you just can’t put down your fork when it comes to a sweet dessert? Have you ever eaten a whole bag of candy in minutes, and sometimes you feel like you can’t survive a day without something sweet?
Most people look at drugs with resentment, but you probably don't know that a large number of people are actually addicted to another type of drug - sugar. Scientists from the Icahn School of Medicine (New York, USA) have discovered that sugar can be addictive and up to 8 times stronger than cocaine addiction! According to research, the food that is most addictive is pizza, due to the large number of hidden sugars that can be found in just one slice. In addition to pizza, there are also chips, biscuits, and ice cream.
Sugar is everywhere
Just like cocaine, sugar triggers a surge of dopamine that makes us feel great right away. However, this feeling does not last long so the brain is looking for more, and over time it will look for more and more to achieve that feeling of euphoria. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much effort to satisfy this addiction because sugar is literally everywhere. Cereal flakes, yogurt, and protein bars, for example, have a reputation as healthy foods but can actually boost your addiction to sweets.
Reduce your sugar intake!
Excessive sugar consumption will not only make you addicted - you can develop diabetes, heart disease, and even acne. How to reduce the desire for sweets? Make water your main drink, eat “real food” instead of packaged snacks, exercise, and of course getting enough sleep.
