Duffy was raped and drugged for four weeks!
British music star Duffy at the height of her career suddenly disappeared from the face of the Earth, and then ten years later she discovered why.
Welsh singer Duffy had an amazing music career. In 2008, her album was the best-selling in the UK, winning three ‘Brit Awards’ and then a Grammy. But suddenly, she just disappeared after releasing her second album in 2010.
And while everyone wondered what happened to her, she suffered because of the horrific events that marked her forever. The 37-year-old singer finally decided to share the truth with the public and with one statement she absolutely shocked the whole world.
" I would write it earlier, but I didn't know how I would feel afterward. I’m not entirely sure why now is the right time and why I feel liberated and excited because I’m talking. I can't explain. Many of you have wondered what happened to me, why I disappeared, and where," the musician said at the time, describing the tragedy that left people speechless.
Namely, she described that it was her birthday. She was drugged in a restaurant, and that lasted another four weeks because they kidnapped her and took her to a foreign country.
She doesn’t remember going on a plane or traveling in a vehicle. They took her to a hotel room and the perpetrator came back and raped her. She remembers the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after all happened. She was trapped with him the next day, he didn’t even look at her. She had to walk behind him. She didn't have any money. After all, Duffy is asking herself from where she got the strength to endure all those days. She came back with him calm and normal, as much as possible to be in such a situation, and when she went home, she sat down, dazed, like a zombie. Duffy knew her life was in danger because he secretly admitted that he wanted to kill her.
She stated that he drugged her in his own home during those four weeks. Duffy doesn't remember what he did to her, if he raped her during that time. She only remembers coming by a car to a foreign country.
After that, she didn’t feel safe going to the police. The singer felt that if something went wrong, she would be dead and he would kill her. She couldn’t risk being misdirected or ending up in all the news. Duffy decided to follow the instinct she had.
The first person she told everything was a psychologist, months later, a leading expert in the UK when it comes to complex trauma and sexual violence. Without her, she might not have succeeded. After all, this beauty had thoughts of suicide.
"I spent almost ten years completely alone. My heart still burns when I write that. But I owe it to myself. I feel obligated to explain how challenging the recovery really was. I hope that this comforts you and that you are less ashamed if you feel alone ", she wrote in a letter that she shared with the public.
