FIFA 23: The game may include cross-play
The annual new edition of the FIFA soccer series returns to the pitch in the fall. According to rumors, the game may include cross-play for the first time.
It is already announced that FIFA and EA's license agreement will expire at the end of 2022. It does not appear that EA intends to renew the contract struck in May 2013. It was announced last year that the publisher has secured the name EA Sports FC. In his opinion, EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently contributed and clarified the significance of the word FIFA for the video game series. FIFA, an EA football game, will most likely be launched for the final time this fall.
Will there be a women's and men's World Cup in the successor to FIFA 22?
FIFA currently allows only Playstation vs. Playstation, PC vs. PC, and Xbox vs. Xbox kickers to compete. Cross-play would allow virtual kickers from various platforms to play against one another online for the first time in the game's history. It's still uncertain whether FIFA 23 supports cross-play. In the next football event, a women's and men's World Cup could be played for the first time.
EA may also upgrade the Hypermotion technology contained in the next-gen version of FIFA 22 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as make it available for the PC version. The technology is an advancement in AI behavior, so that 22 virtual players are computed separately, rather than merely calculating individual players and their behavior, which is currently only available on next-generation consoles.
The EA CEO Andrew Wilson is said to have explained in a letter that FIFA is only four letters on a package.
Will the successor to FIFA 22 get a new name?
Since 1993, the US game producer Electronic Arts has had a license arrangement with FIFA, allowing it to offer football games using the FIFA logo. According to the VGC website, citing an unnamed source, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a memo to his employees that the license arrangement is nothing more than "four letters in a box." The license agreement would ban the publisher from releasing revolutionary football games.
The license agreement with football association FIFA expires
According to reports, the global football association banned EA from developing the football video game beyond the conventional game types or incorporating it into "broader digital ecosystems." Unless it's a year with a FIFA World Cup, EA's worth is simply "four letters on the package." According to the New York Times, the World Football Association is seeking a new license agreement worth $250 million USD. As a result, EA would have to pay twice as much as before for the naming rights.
Already in the current part of the series FIFA 22, several national teams licensed in previous parts of the series are gone, and aside from the 32 European national teams, there are few licensed national teams in the game.
Furthermore, EA has not stated whether or not an official FIFA World Cup game would be released again, as has been the case in the past. EA prefers to refer to the thorough collaboration with the European football organization UEFA in the press release, so that the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Conference League may be played with licensed teams, original ads, trophies, and so on. The same is true for the Copa Libertadores tournament in South America. Furthermore, EA retains rights to the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, and numerous other football competitions.
