For years Molly Shanon made everyone laugh to tears, and few knew what pain she carried within herself because of the terrible tragedy that shook her family
Molly Shannon decided to speak openly about the family tragedy and the accident in which she lost her mother and sister, which was caused by her father.
American actress and comedian Molly Shannon has achieved tremendous success and career resumption thanks to the hit series “The White Lotus” and “The Other Two,” and these days she has decided to talk about the tragedy that rocked her family.
Namely, 56-year-old Molly lost her mother, younger sister, and cousin in a car accident when she was only four years old, which was the fault of her father who was driving under the influence of alcohol and who survived with serious injuries. The actress has so far rarely spoken about the tragic event in public during her 30-year career but has now admitted in an interview with The Los Angeles Times how it has affected her life.
"My heart was broken and I was very sad, I tried to keep it all to myself somehow as a child. But there's no way you're going to feel that kind of deep pain because your mother and sister are dead and keep it all to yourself. It's it shows up later in life and follows you, ”Molly admitted.
The actress became famous after minor roles in the series "In Living Color" and "Twin Peaks", and then in 1995 she joined the team of the show "Saturday Night Live". That year, she created a favorite character, Mary Katherine Gallagher, and she also starred as her in the film "Superstar" a few years later.
Her acting would often involve throwing various objects like metal chairs, without any safety pads, and she didn’t care if she got hurt.
"I didn't care if I cut myself or bled. I didn't care. I was ruthless, and because of what I've been through in my life, I just didn't care about anything," she revealed.
She also wrote about the family tragedy in her memoirs "Hello Molly!" which will come out in April next year.
“I felt like I put my heart on the table, but I hope my story will help others,” Molly added.
She also revealed that while her father was recovering from the accident, that she and her other sister Mary lived with her aunt and that she was aware that her life would never be the same again and she wanted to do everything the way her mother did, even cut bread.
“It all drove me crazy,” she added, admitting that some fun things in her childhood used to make her very sad because they reminded her of the sister and mother she was left without forever.
