Getting naked in front of the camera was never a problem for Brigitte Bardot, and after a successful career and more than 100 lovers, she completely withdrew!
Brigitte Bardot has intrigued the public for years with her nude scenes and interesting private live, and she retired from film after 20 years and became an animal rights activist.
French star Brigitte Bardot was a sex symbol in the 50s and 60s of the last century, and this diva that no one has reached yet a few days ago celebrated her 87th birthday. As an actress, she mostly embodied sexually emancipated women, which is why men all over the world sighed for her, and according to many, she was one of the greatest cultural icons of her time.
Born and raised in Paris, Bardot began ballet as a girl, and in 1952 she threw herself into acting. She achieved international fame with the 1957 film "And God Created a Woman", which was followed by numerous successes. Today, she is considered the forerunner of sex symbols, and she was among the first to strip naked in front of the camera without any shame.
She gave up the entertainment industry in 1973 when she retired, and at that time she had 47 films, several musicals behind her, and she also recorded about 60 songs.
She also led an interesting private life. She fell in love with Marc Alegre's assistant director, Roger Vadim, right at the beginning of her acting career. He soon proposed to her, but the wedding was stopped by her parents. Namely, Bardot was 17 years old and they did not want to give her a marriage license. She was waiting for her 18th birthday and the couple got married in 1952. It was Roger who directed the film hit “And God Created a Woman”.
The couple reportedly had numerous extramarital affairs, and they divorced after five years. This was not a problem for them in the business world and they often and later collaborated together. Two years later, Bardot once again uttered a fateful yes to actor Jacques Charrier, and the couple soon had a son, Nicolas-Jacques. Brigitte reportedly became pregnant at the urging of a husband who desperately wanted a child. She did not connect with her child and stunned the public with the words that pregnancy is the worst thing that has happened to her in her life. Several times she called the child she was carrying in her womb a malignant tumor and stated that it was better that she gave birth to a dog than that child.
It hurt her son and he never forgave her for those statements, but it was all a result of the actress’ great pain. Namely, Brigitte tried to take her own life on her 26th birthday eight months after her son was born. It happened during the filming of “Truth” and Brigitte did it because of marital problems. She divorced in 1962, and while experiencing a crash in her private life, her film was the most-watched in France and broke the earnings record. Nicolas grew up with his father after the divorce because of his entire relationship with his mother.

After leaving the world of film, Brigitte devoted herself to the fight for animal rights. She founded the foundation that cares for the protection of animals in 1986, and in recent years she has shocked the public with her numerous statements when it comes to animal rights. Bardot asked former French President Hollande François Hollande for pardon for Alpine goats and called out politicians for torturing animals in the country.
Bardot today lives in Saint-Tropez surrounded by animals, and due to arthritis, she has to walk with aid. She refused to go for surgery to alleviate the health problem and is one of the few stars who has never wanted to fix her body with plastic surgery. She is known for advocating a natural look and has said several times that she wants to die in her beauty.
