Golden rules of applying perfume

Perfume can be one of the most playful aspects of your beauty routine because a certain scent releases sensual feelings and it can become your signature. However, there is an art of perfume application that is rooted in chemistry and based on tried and tested techniques.

That's why fragrance experts share tips on how to apply perfume properly and what you should do to preserve the integrity of the fragrance.

Apply it directly to the skin

Skin is the perfect canvas for your favorite scent. For an even stronger adhesion of the scent to the skin, try applying perfume to a body lotion or oil.

Do not spray perfume in your hair

"Don't use perfume for your hair. The alcohol-based formula tends to dry out and damage the hair, ”says the senior creative director at Bvlgari Parfums.

However, if you like your hair to have a scent, make sure you use an alcohol-free perfume.

Pulse points

When you apply the perfume correctly, you want to hit all the right points.

It is important to choose parts of the body that are naturally warm and moist, such as the inside of the elbows, the back of the knees, the chest, and the sides of the neck. These areas allow you to truly enjoy the perfume. Try to apply your scent to the pulse points. Your body heat will activate it during the day as a natural diffuser.

Do not rub it on the skin

The application of fragrances can be delicate. The fragrance should stay on the skin to mix with your natural oils. When the wrists rub together, the top notes will fade and evaporate. When you rub your scent, you miss the whole experience because you remove or dry a large part of the scent.

Go through the scent cloud (but there is a catch)

Some like to walk in a spray cloud before getting dressed. This allows you to feel really immersed in the scent. This can be a romantic experience for the user and can make your morning routine more enjoyable. However, make sure that your scent is not toxic. You never want to inhale the scent because traditional perfume is often a pollutant.

Don’t be afraid of layering

Layering more perfume is an art in itself. We can apply an extra scent to refresh the first one without overloading it. Avoid putting on a strong odor on top of others that are also strong, because it is too much and can cause headaches for you and those around you. If you like strong scents, but want a new look for them, cover them with a note of woody or musky scents to make them earthy.

Apply it on clothes as well

There is one rule - if you can wash the fabric, then spray it. Make sure you wave the cloth while spraying for even coverage. Also, keep in mind that you may not experience the full essence of the perfume if you spray the clothes. Due to the nature of the fabric, it only captures some parts of the perfume, not the whole chord - which is why scents can smell more powdery on clothes. So, feel free to spray the clothes with your recognizable perfume, but keep in mind that it is a different fragrant experience than when you apply the perfume properly on the skin.
