Harry's life has changed!

When Prince Harry discovered that EMDR therapy had helped him significantly in overcoming the trauma, everyone immediately wanted to know what it was all about. Curiosity was heightened by footage in which the Duke of Sussex, arms crossed, patted himself on the chest and rolled his eyes.

Trauma therapy EMDR literally means "eye movements, desensitization and reprocessing". It is designed to help people cope with traumatic experiences and heal post-traumatic stress disorder, which manifests itself through poor sleep, constant memory recovery, fear of people, feeling in danger… EMDR acts directly on our mind's ability to process something which, at the moment of the trauma, pushed the brain deep into the unconscious state.

Trauma is an event that overwhelms us, an experience we have never felt before, with which our psyche cannot cope at the moment of happening. It engraves in our psyche, like a seal, painful feelings of sadness, anger, fear, helplessness, as well as a bad opinion of us and the world around us: "I'm in danger… I'm not worth… I can't deal with this… No, I can trust no one. " Unfortunately, no matter how much we try to suppress and forget the trauma later, it constantly returns in the form of heavy emotions, fears, nightmares, bad sleep, fear of people. Because trauma hardly becomes a thing of the past, it seems to constantly hover within us and control our behavior.

EMDR therapy confronts you with the problem in the best possible way

For years, Prince Harry has been trying to calm the pain of losing his mother with an emotional numbness by drinking and taking drugs. Later, due to the pressure of obligations at the court, he developed anxiety (for which he could not determine the real cause). His body showed signs that he was not well. By undergoing EMDR therapy, he went through traumatic moments again, but this time with the support of a psychotherapist. Going through painful events again, but now in a safe environment, with her safe hand, freed him from too many feelings of sadness, fear, helplessness ... Past events stopped bothering him, and he finally felt like a person who manages his life.

For him, the death of his mother will always be a sad event, but now he no longer experiences it again and again. Anxiety cannot disappear completely, and it is normal that we are sometimes anxious, but with the help of EMDR we can predict future unpleasant and potentially stressful situations. The client can soothe himself by patting his body and imagining that he is in a safe place, just as Prince Harry did when he went to his grandfather's funeral.

EMDR is the scientifically proven most effective therapy for traumas with a capital "T" such as rape, loss of a loved one, divorce or breakup, car accident, earthquake, war experiences, job loss…

During EMDR therapy, by having the client move his eyes or tap themselves, the therapist puts them into a sleep-like state and this is called bilateral stimulation of the person. The person is aware that they are with the therapist, but at the same time they are at the place of trauma, and thus the process of liberation from difficult feelings, memories, and bodily sensations begin. It happens that in just one session they change their belief from "I am in danger" to "I am free now". A person experiences past events completely differently, more adaptively. In just one EMDR session, which lasts sixty minutes, a change occurs that is visible on a brain scan.

EMDR allows the past to stay where it belongs - in the past. But, with EMDR, we also deal with current stressful situations, even those from the future. Still, it is impossible to imagine a good future if we have not dealt with the difficult traumatic experiences of the past.
