British actress and Oscar winner Helen Mirren, who is in her eighth decade, has been talking for years about how beauty is not important to her, and because of her looks she would never go "under the knife". Her career does not stop even after more than 30 years of active work. She is a great inspiration and one of the few women in the harsh show business world who is not afraid to age naturally and put those spiritual qualities ahead of the physical.
The famous actress recently gave a big, quite honest interview for British "Vogue", giving a short and wise lesson on how important it is to look for beauty in your life and accept yourself and your flaws.
“Don't let your own insecurities paralyze you and don't be too polite and apologize a lot in life. I mean, I hope I’m a decent person, I hate rudeness, but my words don’t apply to that. I mean, you should be open to possibilities. Talk to people and be as open as possible. It is a very good idea to occasionally look at the world as if you were a child or a stranger and testify about your surroundings. Imagine seeing it for the first time and try to experience the magic in it - because there is magic in every environment. All it takes is to see with new eyes” - said Helen.
The famous 76-year-old also revealed when she started to feel quite comfortable and satisfied in her skin.
“You just get there, without unnecessary questions. It was a long time ago, but I remember the moment - I learned to smile without shame. I always had thick cheeks, so I pulled them in. But you can't pull your cheeks in and smile at the same time! That's impossible, so I never laughed. That's when I discovered that it's really nice to laugh freely and broadly, and not with a narrow, small smile. That benefited me. When you see me in the photos now, I am almost always smiling” - Ms. Mirren revealed.
Last year, this lady sent an important message about beauty to young women in their 20s and 30s. She advised them not to focus on beauty, but to find another quality in themselves and emphasize it.
“Forget the word beauty and find another characteristic that describes you. My word is confident, clumsy. Your word is not beauty, unless, of course, you are very beautiful, in which case that is fine. I'm not pretty. I didn't. Listen, let's be honest. There are beautiful people in the world and I think we can all recognize them. David Beckham is spectacularly beautiful. Man or woman, no matter, but absolute beauty exists. The rest of us, 95% of us, are not in that category, but we are in others: interesting, brave, funny, smart, inspiring. There are many, many different categories. I would tell every 20-year-old to find her category. Remember that there is no person like you on this planet. You are absolutely unique. Find reasons to be proud of that” - this great actress and woman explained.
