Priyanka Chopra: ‘I grew up with unrealistic beauty standards. I thought I had to be skinny to be perfect '

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, who many call one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, spoke about her struggles and insecurities over her own looks. She admitted that she was not always comfortable in her own skin.

"In the past, I've always felt a certain pressure to have to look a certain way. I've been raised with unrealistic standards of beauty my whole life, we're all raised that way," the 39-year-old Miss World 2000 told the Sunday Telegraph.

"Growing up, I thought everything had to be perfect, skinny, and a certain size. It took me a while to accept my natural skin and hair color," she added.

After years of putting on makeup and styling her hair before every interview, today she does it herself. "It was a real revelation for me. Now I feel comfortable in my own skin," the actress admits.

She also recently revealed that she went through a ‘dark phase’ during her 30s when she gained too many pounds.

"It was emotional overeating, my body was starting to change. I was in my thirties and going through hard times because people were telling me - you look different, you're getting old, this, that ... It clouded my brain," she admitted, adding that she was dissatisfied with her own appearance.

"Since I grew up in the beauty industry, I had a very narrow view of my body shape, my figure, and measurements. I watched every bit of myself carefully and during my twenties, I grew up convinced it was normal," the actress adds.

Now he tries to distance herself as much as possible from social networks and the Internet and enjoys her marriage with her husband Nick Jonas
