It's Richard Gere's 72nd birthday: He's been married three times, his current wife is 34 years younger then him

Hollywood actor Richard Gere is celebrating his 72nd birthday today, and his successful career has lasted for decades.

He rose to fame after appearing in the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman" in 1982, and from that moment on, his career has only flourished. Romantic comedies followed, for which he is best known today, such as "Pretty Woman" and "Runaway Bride", with his famous movie partner Julia Roberts.

He has been married three times, spent the period from 1991 to 1995 with model Cindy Crawford, in 2002 he married actress Carrie Lowell, and finally "settled down" with Spanish political activist Alejandra Silva in 2018. His current wife is 34 years younger than him.

In addition to dramatic love life, Gere attracted media attention with his decision to become a Buddhist. Namely, although he was raised in a Christian family, the actor came across texts in his youth that sparked an interest in the mentioned teaching.

Known for his humanitarian work, Gere adopted the Buddhist religion in the mid-1970s and traveled to Tibet in 1978, where he visited refugee camps. He later became a student of the exiled Dalai Lama. Gere provided significant political support in the fight for the independence of Tibet, but he was also involved in many charitable activities related to cultural issues as well as helping people with AIDS.

Today, he uses almost every opportunity to emphasize his commitment to Buddhist teachings and the fact that this philosophy has helped him overcome most of life's challenges.
