"If I were to measure time, it would be with you and without you": Roberto Benigni wins award for lifetime achievement at Venice Film Festival and he dedicates it to his wife
Italian actor Roberto Benigni was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at 78th Venice Film Festival and he gave an emotional speech on that occasion.
What delighted the viewers was the speech of the charming actor during the reception of the award, which he dedicated almost entirely to his wife - actress Nicoletta Braschi.
Namely, the couple has been together for four decades, and they met on the set of his first film, "You Disturb Me." Nicoletta acted in almost all of Benigni's movies, among which the shocking story "Life is Beautiful" about the survival of a father and son in a Nazi camp stands out.
After introductory thanks, Roberto addressed the following words to his partner:
"At this moment, I want to dedicate my thoughts to Nicoletta Braschi, who is here in the hall. We’ve done everything together for 40 years,” Benigni said. “So I can’t dedicate the Lion to you, but we can split it. I will take the tail, to express my joy, to show you my cheer. And the rest is yours, especially the wings because if I’ve been able to soar, it’s thanks to you, your talent, your mystery, your charm, your beauty, your femininity, the fact that you are a woman" said Benigni and added:
"Being a woman is a mystery that we men do not understand. Groucho Marx was right when he said "men are women who failed to be that". And that is true. I couldn't be like you, Nicoletta. If I have done anything beautiful or good in my life, it has always been through your light. Our love was at first sight, in fact at eternal sight" he told his wife.
