It’s been 40 years since the wedding of Lady Di and Prince Charles
The wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles is one of the most-watched television events in history, and in the UK the day has been declared a national holiday.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married on July 29, 1981, and their wedding ceremony on television was watched by 750 million people in 74 countries.
It is one of the most-watched and popular events in the history of the British royal family. It was surpassed only by the funeral of Princess Diana, which was watched by about two and a half billion spectators.
The day Diana and Charles uttered and said the fateful yes in the UK was so important that it was declared a national holiday and there were around 600,000 citizens on the streets of London wanting to greet the couple.
They were married in the Cathedral of St. Paul in London and it is interesting that Lady Di was the first royal bride to remove the word obedience from church vows.
At the wedding, which bears the title of the event of the century, the princess wore a spectacular wedding dress with puff sleeves and lace that was made of silk taffeta. More than 10,000 pearls, allegedly worth $ 123,000, were sewn into the dress.
The wedding dress was also special in that it had a veil seven and a half meters long, the longest in the history of royal weddings. Underneath the dress, she had shoes that were not visible and had a very small heel so that Diana would not surpass Prince Charles in height. They were made of satin and lace and had 500 sequins and more than 100 pearls, and it took them half a year to make them according to the princess's wishes. Below the miniature heel of the shoe are the initials of the names Diana and Charles and a heart between them.
