James Franco cast as Fidel Castro

James Franco is returning to the big screen after all, even if it was behind closed doors because it is not a Hollywood production, but he will play no less than Fidel Castro.

It is a role in a new film of independent production called Alina of Cuba, in which he joins Ana Villafane. She portrays Alina Fernandez, Castro's daughter, and Mia Maestro plays Alina's mother Natalia Revuelta, a high-class woman who gave birth to a daughter after having an affair with Castro.

The entire film will follow Alina's life as Castro's illegitimate daughter and her journey from when she was a critic of his government in Cuba, until the moment she left it to go to Spain in 1993. The choice of Franco as Fidel Castro was supported by the real Alina Fernandez, who collaborates with the authors of the film.

This is not the first announcement that Franco is returning to acting, as he previously secured a role in Bille August's Me, You. Both films represent a new chance for the actor, who was accused in 2019 of sexually exploiting girls who attended his acting classes. The dispute ended last year, and Franco has not appeared in any films since.

The film Alina of Cuba will be directed by Miguel Bardem, based on the screenplay written by Jose Rivera and Nilo Cruz. Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-August in Colombia, and the planned completion date is currently unknown.

James Franco was one of the most popular actors of all time. He made a film hit after hit, received critical acclaim, enjoyed the respect of his colleagues in "fame" and then, almost overnight, everything changed. Accusations have surfaced that he abused girls at his acting school. He was silent about crimes for four full years, and he didn't talk about everything until 2021.

We must not forget the anger of the public in 2018 after winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor for the film "The Disaster Artist", when many believed that this prestigious recognition does not deserve criminals, especially pedophiles. It should be reminded that shortly before the awards ceremony, Sarah Titer-Kaplan and Toni Gaal said that the actor sexually abused them in his acting school, which he closed in 2014.
