Lady Gaga performs the song "Smelly Cat" with Phoebe from Friends

The song, which is performed in a sitcom by the character interpreted by Lisa Kudow - Phoebe Buffet, was rearranged by Lady Gaga for the episode "Friends: The Reunion Special", which premieres today, on May 27.

The director and producer of this special, Ben Winston, told Variety magazine that he presented the idea to Lisa Kudrow and that Gaga needed a little persuasion. "I asked Lisa - are you ready to sing it, she answered - yes, it will be fun," he states.

And then he told why the choice fell on Gaga.

"We thought between a couple of performers and we both agreed that Gaga, is the right choice because of her character connection with the character Phoebe, which Gaga herself pointed out earlier in her interviews. It was a wonderful moment - Gaga used the opportunity to do this," said Winston.

Winston pointed out that the performance was realized very quickly: "We sat with two guitars and two of them and practiced here and there."
