The model and actress, known for her work in the field of activism, made a big blunder. Lilly Cole posted a picture with a burqa as part of the promotion of her new book on Instagram.

Lily Cole apologized after she posted a picture in a burqa in the middle of the crisis in Afghanistan

Her intention was to indicate that all cultures should be respected, but now may not be the time for that, given that women in Afghanistan are currently losing all their rights before the introduction of sharia and are forced to hide their hair, among other things, and a burqa face is also predicted soon.

“We embrace diversity at all levels - biodiversity, cultural diversity, diversity of opinion, diversity of voices diversity of ideas,” she wrote at the time with a post that she quickly deleted due to criticism.

"This week I posted old photos of myself wearing a burqa lent to me by a friend. I didn't read the news at the time I posted it so the timing wasn't good at all and thank you for pointing me to it," she wrote on IG Story after the post, and she has removed it since then.

However, the model was criticized not only because of what's going on in Afghanistan but also because the burqa is a religious symbol, not a fashion accessory that should be used for self-promotion.

Times columnist Janice Turner accused Cole of "putting Instagram ahead of universal human rights," and Anjum Peerbacos, the co-founder of the Hijabi Half-Hour podcast, said the photos were a reflection of disrespect. "It's not a fashion accessory. That garment is a valuable religious symbol and is worn and used as such."
