Matt Hutchins: 'I can't watch Baldwin's lies'
The husband of the murdered Halyne Hutchins spoke: 'I can't watch Baldwin lies that he is not guilty'
The husband of the camerawoman who was shot by Alec Baldwin during the shooting of the western, said how shocked and angry he is because the actor does not want to take responsibility for her death. Halyna Hutchins died on October 21 when Baldwin fired from a pistol used in the movie ‘Rust’, shooting her in the chest. Baldwin was told that the gun he was waving was 'cold' and that it was not loaded.
The actor, on the other hand, told ABC News on December 3 that he did not feel guilty about her death because he did not believe he was responsible.'Looking at him, I was so angry,' said Matt Hutchins, who was married to Halyn for 16 years.
'I was so angry to see him talk about her death so publicly and in such detail, and then not accepting any responsibility, after he had just described killing her,' the grieving husband said.
Hutchins, a Harvard-educated lawyer, said in an interview with Today that he believes most of the blame is on Baldwin. He stated that the idea that the person who held the gun and fired the bullet was not guilty was considered absurd.
'Weapon security was not the only issue on that set. There were a number of security standards that were not practiced and there are several responsible parties,' he added.
Hutchins met Baldwin in New Mexico after the fatal shooting. During a major interview in December, Baldwin replied that he did not know what to say to him when they met.
'He hugged me and said, 'I guess you and I are going through this together,'' the actor said at the time. Hutchins, who has a nine-year-old son, Andros, with his late wife, filed a lawsuit against Baldwin on February 15.
An indictment was also filed against Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 24, who was in charge of loading an antique Colt 45 revolver. Gutierrez-Reed gave the gun to Dave Halls, the film’s assistant director, who is also mentioned in the Hutchins family lawsuit. Gutierrez-Reed described the set of ‘Rusta’ as ‘a hectic and chaotic atmosphere, which created the perfect conditions for the incident.
Lane Luper, the film’s first assistant, said he resigned the day before the fatal shooting because employees were overworked, covid security was not enforced properly, and gun security was poor. Sadly, Halyina died on that shooting and there is no way back.
