Mel Gibson to star in the John Wick prequel, the screenwriter surprised: 'I had no idea!'

Mel Gibson will star in the upcoming series “The Continental,” the prequel of the successful John Wick film series, otherwise played by Keanu Reeves.

"The Continental" was presented as a TV special produced for Starz by Lionsgate Television, but what interests the public most about the series is how Gibson got the role despite all the accusations related to his anti-Semitic history and misogynistic outbursts.

Screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who wrote the screenplay for “John Wick,” told TMZ he was surprised by the decision.

"I had no idea that he would also be included in the series," says Kolstad, who did not participate in the creation of "The Continental".

Kolstad doesn’t believe in firing anyone because of previous mistakes, for which Gibson, according to Twitter posts, is very well known.

Gibson has never been a complete victim of the cancel culture despite anti-Semitic moments and alleged domestic violence, as he has been acting and directing almost unhindered for years.

“The Continental” was announced back in 2017 and will focus on young Winston, the character who was portrayed by Ian McShane in the movies. Along with Gibson, the series will star Ben Robson, Colin Woodell, Mishell Prada, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, and Kate Nhung.

These are some Twitter reactions to the casting choice!
