Mickey Rourke: Tom Cruise is "irrelevant" as an actor

'The Wrestler' actor recently shared how he really felt about the Top Gun: Maverick star, calling Cruise “irrelevant” and claiming that Cruise has “been doing the same effing part for 35 years.”

While on the one hand the film "Top Gun: Maverick" made the record at the box office and Tom Cruise is praised by everyone, on the other hand, there are those who are not very enthusiastic.

Among them is the famous Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke, who said on Piers Morgan's show that Tom Cruise is "completely irrelevant". On the note that it is a continuation of the cult "Top Gun", one of the most successful this year, Rourke said, "it doesn't mean anything to me".

Tom Cruise has been playing the same role for 35 years. I have no respect for that. I don't care about money or power. I care to watch Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, or De Niro's early works, Richard Harris, Ray Winstone do it. That's the kind of actor I want to be” - said Mickey Rourke, who will be seen in Roman Polanski's latest film.

When asked if Tom Cruise is a good actor, Rourke was quite clear: "I think he's irrelevant." As he added, "he hasn't developed his acting muscles in the last 30 years."

By the way, "Top Gun: Maverick" overthrew Marvel's superhero film "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" ($ 943 million) as the highest-grossing film of the year at the global box office.

Despite countless delays in the premiere of the sequel to the film, which was supposed to hit cinemas for the first time in the summer of 2020 at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, success was not lacking. "Top Gun: Maverick" needs a cinema audience to justify a hefty production budget of 170 million dollars, which does not include tens of millions of dollars spent on the promotion of the film around the world. Part of the funds went to the premiere held at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was co-produced and co-financed by Skydance Media.
