Nvidia ready for Unreal Engine 5
Epic has finished and published the latest version of the Unreal Engine. Nvidia has now also agreed to support Unreal Engine 5. Initially, Nvidia DLSS, Reflex, and RTX Global Illumination should be supported.
Epic has now officially released its latest version of the Unreal Engine, less than a year after early access. Unreal Engine 5 promises to make it possible for developers to create games and applications with a high level of geometric precision and completely dynamic global lighting. Nvidia has officially confirmed its support for the new engine and reflects on the previous eight years with Unreal Engine 4.
Nvidia also supports Unreal Engine 5
Nvidia discusses its lengthy connection with Epic in a recent blog post. At the Game Developers Conference 2013, Epic demonstrated the Unreal Engine 4 "Infiltrator" demo.
At the time, it was powered by a single GTX 680. A physically-based rendering pipeline, a temporal anti-aliasing solution, and a lighting approach that could blend pre-calculated and dynamic lighting were among the major rendering improvements in the demo. Epic demonstrated real-time ray tracing with Unreal Engine 4 for the first time at GDC 2018.
After a few years, Epic was able to produce the Unreal Engine 5, which aims to excel in its fundamental parts Lumen, global illumination, and Nanite, the geometry engine. Nvidia intends to provide significant RTX technology to assist the new engine.
Initially, plug-ins for the technologies DLSS, Reflex, and RTX Global Illumination should be available (RTXGI). When playing Fortnite on a PC with Nvidia RTX, you should be able to observe DLSS and Reflex in action in Unreal Engine 5. Epic's Battle Royale Fortnite has moved to the Unreal Engine 5 with Chapter 3.
The official RTXGI-UE plugin has been available since Unreal Engine 4.27 and since UE 5.0 Preview 2.
Epic Games has already given us some progress on what to expect from the platform chosen for the future new Tomb Raider adventure, among which we choose Matrix Awakens, a playable demo for PlayStation 5 that left many mouths open.
