Prince William celebrates his 40th birthday

It is rumored about a joint birthday party of Prince William and his wife Kate after her plans for the party were canceled due to a rise in the coronavirus rate. The Duke of Cambridge got permission to throw a party at Windsor Castle or the Sandringham estate later this summer after the Queen agreed that the couple should ‘celebrate their round birthdays in style’. Those are information that sources close to the royal couple revealed.

Like senior members of the royal family, including the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Queen should attend the celebration of William and Kate, in line with the royal tradition of marking the milestones of the decade for older family members. However, the 96-year-old queen, who has been suffering from growing mobility problems in recent months, will not confirm her arrival until the day of the party, a source from the palace confirmed.

Historically, joint lavish celebrations used to be held to celebrate several birthdays of royal family members together. One such extravagant royal party was held in June 2000 at Windsor Castle and there was celebrated the 40th birthday of Prince Andrew, the 50th of Princess Anne, the 70th of Princess Margaret, and the 18th of Prince William.

For the first time in the royal family, William will not mark his birthday by waving Union flags on government buildings as senior royal family birthdays have been celebrated so far, due to the expulsion of Prince Andrew from royal office after his involvement in a sexual abuse scandal.

The Queen and Prince of Wales will now be the only members of the royal family whose birthdays will be celebrated in this way. Andrew was removed from the list on the Government's website, as were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and other members of the royal family.

For Kate and William's joint birthday party, Kensington Palace said: 'We are not commenting on private plans.'
