Princess Charlene returned to Monaco
The saddest princess is still recovering and can't wait to return to royal duties.
Princess Charlene has returned to Monaco. The 44-year-old princess has returned to the principality and reunited her family earlier this week. A statement from the palace late Saturday afternoon confirmed that the mother of twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabrielle had returned home and would continue her recovery in the Principality with her husband and children.
Charlene was in a Swiss clinic since November. Her return to Monaco after four months, in consultation with her doctors, is the result of her encouraging recovery according to a palace statement.
In early November, the princess, who suffered from ‘exhaustion, both emotional and physical’, volunteered for treatment at a professional institution. Choosing a clinic outside of Monaco, as her husband Prince Albert told at the time, was her personal decision, supported by family members.
Seeking treatment somewhere else in Europe was the solution the princess preferred, he explained. 'She has already made her decision and we just wanted her to confirm it in front of us. She wanted this. She already knew that it was best to go to rest and have the right medical-framed treatment, ' he told in November.
The princess is expected to gradually resume her official duties only after several weeks of continuous care and rest. A statement from the palace indicates that her return to public appearances and commitments will happen as soon as her health is strong enough. The statement reiterates that the princess is looking forward to reuniting with the people of Monaco.
The princess still needs peace and tranquility, so the royal couple demands that their private life and family environment continue to be respected.
Charlene’s return is the final step in a ten-month agony. She fell ill for the first time in South Africa in May last year on what was planned to be a short ten-day visit to her homeland. A series of painful corrective surgeries delayed her return to Monaco until the end of 2021.
Upon her return, the princess showed signs of exhaustion and decided to seek medical help. It was clear she was not feeling well. Since then, both the palace and the princess have regularly shared news of her recovery. Prince Albert and their children are in daily contact with the princess, according to insiders. During her illness and recovery, the princess was forced to celebrate several significant holidays and family occasions, including her tenth wedding anniversary, her children’s birthday, and her own birthday, via social media.
Her return to Monaco, however, is in time for Prince Albert’s 45th birthday this Tuesday, which should be marked by private celebrations.
