Rose McGowan calls out Oprah: "She is as fake as they come"
Actress Rose McGowan, known for her role as Paige in the "Charmed" series, called the famous host Oprah Winfrey and accused her of, as she says, false support for the #MeToo movement.
In a critical post on social media, McGowan said that she was glad that people "saw the ugly truth".
"I'm glad that more and more people are seeing the ugly truth of Oprah," Rose wrote on Twitter next to a photo of Oprah from her younger days, who is now 67, posing and smiling next to Harvey Weinstein.
"I wish she were real, but she isn't. From friendship with Weinstein to abandoning and destroying the victims of Russell Simon, she supports the sick structure of power that works for personal benefit, she is as fake as they are," the actress said.
McGowan was one of the first women to accuse Harvey of rape. The long list of victims who went public with accusations of sexual assault by the film producer dates back to the 1970s, which also initiated the #MeToo movement, in October 2017.
Although Harvey Weinstein still denies that he had "any sex without consent", in February 2020 he was found guilty of two counts.
Music director Russell Simon has also been charged with rape and sexual abuse. The music director (63) has denied the accusations from 20 women and has not been in the spotlight in recent years.
Last year, Oprah resigned as executive producer of the documentary titled “On the Record” which centers on allegations of sexual abuse and harassment against hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah then said: “I want it to be known that I unequivocally trust women and support them. Their stories deserve to be apologized for and heard."
"In my opinion, the film still needs to work on shedding light on all that the victims have suffered, but it has become clear that the authors and I are not aligned in that creative vision."
It’s not the first time Rose has publicly condemned Oprah. Namely, in 2018, the actress told the Daily Mail that she had refused the opportunity for an interview with Oprah due to the former friendship of the presenter with Harvey Weinstein.
Oprah has consistently denied any knowledge of the producer's sexual abuse.
