Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney, claiming they violated her contract

Actress Scarlett Johansson  (36) sued Disney on Thursday, reports People. Allegedly, Disney violated their contract related to the movie “Black Widow” in which Johansson plays the lead role of Natasha Romanoff.

The "Black Widow" recently came to cinemas, but also to the Disney + streaming platform. Johansson claims that her contract with Disney's Marvel Entertainment guaranteed her an exclusive screening of the film in cinemas and that this decision harmed her financially, as she signed a contract in which the main part of her salary depends on the success of the film in cinemas.

- Disney intentionally breached the contract to prevent Ms. Johansson to fully realize the benefits of her deal with Marvel - the lawsuit says.

Her lawyer,  John Berlinski,  said such behavior violates the rights of actors and he hopes he will be able to prove it in court.

“It’s no secret that Disney is releasing movies like“ The Black Widow” for distribution through Disney + in order to increase the number of subscribers and thus increase the price of its shares, even though they are now hiding behind covid 19,” he said.

Berlinski added that he is sure that this will not be the last case in which someone opposes Disney.

"Whatever they pretend, they have an obligation to honor the contracts they make," the lawyer concluded.

A Disney spokesman said such a lawsuit was invalid.

- This lawsuit insensitively ignores the horrific and long-lasting consequences of the coronavirus on the world. Disney fully complied with the contract with Ms. Johansson and this kind of distribution helped her earn extra money, he said.

Johansson has been working with Marvel since 2010 but has previously stated that she has no plans to reprise her role as Black Widow.

- I would like to continue working with Marvel in a different way, because they really have an extraordinary wealth of interesting stories - said the actress.
