Belle Gibson carried out the most heinous scam of her followers on social media claiming she had been diagnosed with several cancers, and she was physically perfectly healthy and making money from her lies.
Australian influencer Belle Gibson shocked the world with her insidious and false story that she placed on her fans on social media. Namely, she claimed that she had only four months left to live, but that she had managed to cure a non-operative brain tumor on her own, with a healthy diet.
It was a completely false story in which Belle was making money by selling a miraculous recipe for a miraculous life after she got healthy, of which she fantasized the whole time.
“I drew strength from the idea of saving my life with food, determination, and love,” she stated in a recipe book she published and sold, unfortunately, to really sick people.
Belle has even devised an app backed by some of the biggest tech giants like Apple, who have also no doubt stumbled upon her lies.
But she was exposed in 2015 when the Australian media found out that Belle lied to her followers, she even lied about donating part of her earnings to charity. After a quick unfolding of the story, it was also announced that she never had a tumor.
She published her “shocking” confession in 2014 claiming to have been diagnosed with cancers in her blood, spleen, brain, uterus, and liver.
Two years later, the Australian government fined her £ 240,000 for misleading the public about donating money and she was found guilty of violating five items of consumer law. The judge working on the case concluded that there was a possibility that Belle had convinced herself of misconceptions in her own health and believed she was ill.
Throughout the story, the worst are the testimonies of the people who followed Bella’s example and advice, which ultimately led to a deterioration in their health. Among them is young British Maxine, who spoke openly for the BBC.
"I started a diet and eliminated a bunch of alleged harmful products, those of animal origin, gluten, and carbohydrates. It was extreme. I soon became so malnourished that I lost my period and my health started to deteriorate," she said.
Even today, no one knows what prompted Belle to make such a horrific move and fraud, and Australian authorities began confiscating her property in May this year for failing to pay the fine imposed on her by her country’s government.
