She did not take him seriously: Princess Diana considered Prince Charles' proposal a joke!

As revealed in the transcripts of the footage, which Andrew Morton used for his biography of Diana, the late princess once thought that the moment Prince Charles proposed to her was just a good joke.

I went to Windsor and got there around 5 pm. He sat me down and told me he missed me so much. He was known to be very tactless, so the next moment he asked me, 'Will you marry me?' and then he started laughing. I remember thinking it was all a joke, so I told him I was getting married and started laughing myself,' said Princess Diana.

Andrew Morton’s book, the first version of which was published in 1992, revealed how the proposal took place in the children’s room of Windsor Castle, and that Charles did not kneel when he asked the question.

Speaking of the recording, Diana then revealed how the tone of the conversation changed after that: ‘He became dead serious and said to me,‘ You realize you’re going to be queen one day? ’And a voice inside me said,‘ You’re not going to be queen, but you will have a difficult role. '

After agreeing to marry with the word 'OK', Diana then said to Charles: 'I love you very much', to which he replied: 'Whatever that love means.'

By the way, many remember that the scene was revived in the fourth season of Netflix’s ‘Crown’.
