Sofia Vergara to play drug queen Griselda Blanco in new Netflix series
Sofia Vergara will play the infamous drug queen Griselda Blanco in a new Netflix series that will show in six episodes the real life of a woman who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.
Griselda Blanco's deadly mix of charm and wild side helped her get along professionally between family and work, which led her to become widely known as the "Black Widow".
The series comes from screenwriter Ingrid Escajeda, who will also be executive producer, as well as Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Andres Baiz, and Carlo Bernard - who make up the creative team behind the "Narcos" series - but "Griselda" will not be associated with this Netflix franchise.

Vergara will also be the executive producer of the project with Luis Balaguer for Latin World Entertainment.
“Griselda Blanco was a 'character bigger than life’, her relentless but ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion-dollar empire years before many of the most notorious male drug lords we know so much about,” Sofia Vergara said.

“We are thrilled to have found the perfect partners in Eric, Andres, and Netflix, who will help us bring this story of her life to the screen,” she added.
Newman added that Griselda Blanco has long been a passion project for Sofia.

“Sofia is a brilliant talent and her passion combined with a fantastic story means we have a very exciting series that we can share with the audience,” Newman added.
Blanco became interesting in the public eye after her exploits were highlighted in the 2006 documentary "Cocaine Cowboys" and its sequel two years later, and she was also played by Catherine Zeta-Jones in the 2018 biographical film "Cocaine Godmother."
