Steam Deck: The Witcher 3 is in

What can and cannot be played on the Steam Deck?

Things are looking up for The Witcher 3 lovers, but not so much for Halo fans. We've released a minor update regarding Steam deck compatibility for PC games.

Many PC gamers have been wondering if their favorite games are compatible with Valve's PC portable Steam Deck since its release. Even if they don't like the answers, they're getting them. For example, The Witcher 3 was just confirmed to be Steam Deck compatible, whereas Microsoft's Halo and other titles have been kept out for the time being.

The CD Projekt Red development team recently announced on Twitter via the official Witcher Twitter account that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now playable on Steam. Valve has "confirmed" Steam Deck compatibility for the role-playing game. So, if you already have The Witcher 3 in your Steam library, you may start playing it with your Steam Deck right away.

Things are unfortunately a little different with Microsoft's games and the Steam Deck. Although most Xbox Game Studios titles are believed to be executable, Microsoft states that Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Halo Infinite, Gears 5, and Microsoft Flight Simulator X are incompatible with the Steam Deck.

They don't run on the Steam deck since their anti-cheat mechanisms aren't designed to work with it. Also, it's unclear whether they'll be playable in the future.

Buying a Steam Deck: You need a lot of patience

The initial round of pre-order emails was sent out at the end of February, as is well known. Anyone who received this email could order a Steam Deck and have it delivered by the end of March. Other batches of bookings are planned to ship in the first quarter. The relevant e-mails for the second batch have now been sent out, as confirmed by Valve in an update.

Every week on the 14th, 21st, and 28th of March, there are more emails. Those that have the second quarter as an order date in their Steam deck overview will begin receiving their orders in April. The author of this news is still in Q1 but has not yet gotten an order e-mail.

Valve clarifies that the manufacture of the Steam Deck has been "actively ramped up," therefore there is now "clearer" information about availability and production schedules. As a result, buyers can now see the time frame for when the order will be available in the third quarter. Go to the Steam Deck product page, log in, and look for the order window.
