Steven Spielberg is directing a TV series

Steven Spielberg is best known for directing blockbuster films such as "Jaws," "ET," and "Jurassic Park," but it appears the iconic director also wants to direct for television.

Spielberg mentioned on an edition of the Smartless podcast that he would like to helm a television series in the future.

"I have an appetite for the long form and one day I will direct a feature-length series," Spielberg said.

"If someone offered me Mare of Easttown, I would immediately accept to direct it. It was a very beautiful story, with full potential."

Mare of Eastown is an HBO crime drama series that debuted in 2021. Kate Winslet is a small-town detective investigating a murder.

Spielberg has worked with HBO before, having produced Band of Brothers for the network in the early 2000s. The director was also on the verge of directing a series for HBO, having expressed interest in adapting the film Lincoln into a series.

"I was willing to do Lincoln as a six-episode series but no one believed in it. I went door to door and everyone turned me down. I was ready to do a deal with HBO. Tony Kushner's first draft was 550 pages, so I had the "goods", I had the material..."

Finally, Lincoln was made into a film in 2012. The picture received critical acclaim and received 12 Academy Award nominations.

For his performance of Abraham Lincoln, Daniel Day-Lewis was named Best Actor.

Daniel Day-Lewis surprised the world six years ago by retiring from acting

A short statement was published at the time: "Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer work as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all his collaborators and the audience who enjoyed his film projects. It is his private decision and no one, neither himself nor his representatives will comment further on this decision".
