Summer hit: Moscow Mule cocktail

Full of refreshing flavors - that's how we can best describe the Moscow Mule cocktail. It is a combination of fragrant lime, sparkling ginger juice and cold vodka. Moscow Mule can be easily recognized by the characteristic copper glass in which it is served. This cocktail is rich in history and tradition, and how to prepare the best Moscow Mule cocktail find out below.

Moscow Mule did not originate in Russia

Although the name suggests so, the Moscow Mule cocktail did not originate in Russia or have anything to do with it. Moscow Mule was first mixed but also recorded, in the 1940s in Manhattan, USA. Thanks to vodka merchants, it quickly spread to the rest of America and became one of the most popular cocktails in Los Angeles. Today, Moscow Mule can be drunk in almost every cocktail bar, and various versions have emerged from it, such as the London Mule. The difference between cocktails is in the alcohol used - in Moscow Mule it is vodka, and in London Mule it is gin.

Real Moscow Mule is served in a copper cup

From the first days when it was just made, the Moscow Mule cocktail is served in a characteristic copper glass that cools down very quickly to the icy temperature of the cocktail. Such glass was used to promote Moscow Mule cocktails and vodka itself. That is why Moscow Mule is still traditionally served in a copper cup. However, care must be taken that the copper cup we buy is coated with a layer of more resistant metal because the acid of the lime juice would otherwise dissolve the copper. The amount of melted copper would be toxic enough for one cocktail to cause problems, so make sure you buy glasses from a trusted supplier.

Now that you know the history of Moscow Mule cocktails and how you should serve it, it’s time for a recipe.
