Tesla will have a battery with extremely long life and energy density

Tesla's research team is hard at work developing a battery that might last an amazing 100 years. He collaborates with Jeff Dahn, a world-renowned battery technology expert at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, as well as his colleagues and graduate students. The new technology has a higher energy density and can endure more charging cycles than lithium-ion batteries.

Tesla will have a battery with extremely long life and energy density

It helps to overcome material shortages and decreases costs because it uses fewer battery cells. The usage of nickel will boost the energy density of the new battery, which might be substantially higher than the present Li-ion cells.

According to a new paper published in the Journal of the Electrochemical Society, if the battery is kept at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, it can last for more than a century. The new design may be effective with little or no cobalt.

This is significant since cobalt mining can create water, air, and soil pollution, as well as respiratory disorders and other health issues in miners. Energy density is critical in developing the optimum battery. A lower density battery requires a larger battery to travel a given distance.

Higher density batteries take up less room in the vehicle and provide more range. The reason it is so difficult to abandon fossil fuels is that they have a high energy density - more than 100 times that of the batteries invented thus far.

Will Volkswagen soon overtake Tesla in EV sales?

Volkswagen's CEO believes that the largest European automaker can overcome Tesla and become the world's leading EV seller by 2025.

Herbert Diess, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, stated that alleviating supply chain issues will likely help the German automaker catch up in the coming months.

When asked why investors gave Tesla a large advantage over other traditional carmakers like Volkswagen, Diess stated, "Markets are always tied to the future."

Tesla currently has a significant advantage. Tesla is most likely the world's most digital car corporation. "However, I believe we can outnumber them in terms of delivered vehicles annually until 2025," Diess added.

Diess stated that Tesla was able to demonstrate good performance and a high yield while maintaining a respectable business model. He did, however, reiterate his view that Volkswagen will soon close the gap in terms of selling electric vehicles.

"I believe that the rise will be a little more difficult for Tesla currently. They are opening new plants, and we are attempting to keep up. We anticipate catching up in the second half of the year " Diess stated.
