"The Artful Dodger": TV series inspired by "Oliver Twist"

Those familiar with the work of Charles Dickens will know very well who the Artful Dodger is, as well as the famous character Oliver Twist. There are no novels about the character in Dickens's literature, so this series of eight installments on Hulu and Disney+ can be considered a kind of spin-off of the classic, in which the character's adventures are followed in Australia, 15 years after he is released from prison.

A man once known as an artful dodger -The Artful Dodger - finds himself on the run from his past in 19th-century Australia, in the first published trailer for the series, which was published by Hulu. Eight episodes of the series Inspired by the world created by Charles Dickens arrived on the streaming service at the end of November. The teaser trailer introduces us to the titular Jack Dawkins (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), the once-famous London pickpocket from Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist". In this trailer, he is exiled to Australia, where he decides to completely change his life and become a doctor. In this way, he slowly becomes part of high society.

But Dawkins can't escape his past, especially not when Fagin (David Thewlis) appears. He is the leader of a gang of criminal children which Dawkins found while he was in London, and who for unknown reasons arrives in Australia.

Fagin and Dawkins' innate capacity for crime threatens to destroy the new life Dawkins has managed to build for himself, including his budding romance with Lady Belle Fox (Maia Mitchell). The trailer gives us a hint of daring robberies, dangerous 19th-century medicine, a pistol duel on the beach, and the gallows that haunt Dawkins.

The series "The Artful Dodger" was created by James McNamara, David Maher, and David Taylor. Directed by Jeffrey Walker, Corrie Chen, and Gracie Otto, it also stars Damon Herriman, Miranda Tapsell, and Tim Minchin. All eight episodes arrived on Hulu on the 29th. November of this year.
