The best recipe for homemade donuts!
Perfectly soft and airy on the inside and golden yellow on the surface, donuts can be filled with jam, chocolate spread or vanilla cream. You choose.
Carnivals, donuts, or donuts - whatever we call them, we all enjoy them. Donuts are traditionally prepared during the carnival, but do you know why? The groceries needed to make homemade donuts used to be very valuable so it was a real luxury to prepare them. Donuts were served only on special occasions, and carnivals were one of them. The custom by which our ancestors banished winter and invoked warmer days was also a pre-Lent period. As Lent itself is a period of renunciation, homemade donuts were an ideal dessert to treat before fasting.
Ingredients for 12 to 14 donuts:
- 500 g of smooth flour
- 20 g of sugar
- 70 g butter at room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 200 ml of milk
- 2 tablespoons rum
- 20 g fresh yeast (half a standard cube)
- 2 vanilla sugar (20 g)
- Grated rind of one small lemon
- 1 teaspoon salt
