The E3 2022 Expo has been canceled entirely
The Electronic Entertainment Expo is having a bad year in 2022. And is that, while we reported a few months ago that the physical edition of E3 2022 had been canceled, the organization had high hopes for repeating the online format that we use in 2021 (in comparison to 2020, the year that the pandemic hit us, in which the event was completely canceled), today we have news in the opposite direction, which is that the event would finally be completely canceled, just like in 2020.
Remember that when the face-to-face edition was canceled last January, the organization of E3 2022 stated: « Due to the ongoing health hazards associated with COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and guests, E3 will not be hosted in-person in 2022. We remain tremendously thrilled about the future of E3 and look forward to sharing more specifics soon," the company said, adding that it was "excited about the possibilities of an online event."
Now, after months of nervous waiting, in which it seemed weird not to have further news about it, it appears that perhaps such enthusiasm was not that strong, or was not shared by the individuals engaged in the decision. And it is because there appears to be no other justification to excuse the cancellation of E3 2022, which, admittedly, is not yet official, having been made public by a tweet by Will Powers, Razer's communication manager, in which he also claims to have learned via email.
A quick read of the tweet reveals that the news of the cancellation of the digital edition of E3 2022 does not make him happy, and even less so after learning of it in this manner, despite the fact that Razer is, without a doubt, one of the most important brands of gaming devices on the market, and thus it can be assumed that he should have participated in making this decision.
In the absence of an official statement from the organization explaining the reasons for this decision, it does not appear prudent to cancel the digital edition of E3 2022, especially given that this format was already widely used in 2021 and that we are already seeing both digital and physical events in this 2022.
In this case, discontinuing the physical edition is understandable. However, doing the same with the online edition, so postponing the event's appearance until 2023, is something we do not entirely comprehend.
